My Confused Jacket

The latest track I've heard from My Morning Jacket's new album Evil Urges blows my mind.

But not in the "I've discovered the future of indie-meets-hippie-meets-psychedelic-meets Skynyrd" way. My mind has been blown in the "what the hell is going on? Someone must have linked to the wrong mp3" way.

I really can't come up with any concrete praise, criticism, suggestions, or insults for the track. I'm at a loss. So I leave it up to you, the reader, to comment on the song. It's called "Highly Suspicious," which is appropriate, because I'm highly suspicious of My Morning Jacket's new direction, which is obviously influenced by these two:

I know this is blasphemous for some of you, but it has a Radiohead quality to it...as in, man this guy has a high falsetto voice and I can't understand a damn thing he's saying.

Secondly, it reminds me of the death metal bullshit that a bunch of the ass-hats I teach think is their future career. It has the musical quality of an ICP concert.

This song eats a large bag of gonads.

I've listen to most of the album... my analysis of the situation is that they are tying to hard. Probably because their last album was so adorn by the critics. Jim James was probably thinking to himself "You know, I think I am a musical genius.... NME says I am." This is the result. I do like a few songs... but over all Evil Urges is a regression from "Z".

Gotta love the boots though.
