Barger's Wedding: Romance in the Rubber City

The last wedding that we all went to in Akron....well.....this happened:

Thankfully, they have yet to restock the grocery with whip cream, so whip-it-palooza wouldn't be repeated. We were lucky enough to stay that the DeFago Family Hotel & Casino, which comes complete with a nightly viewing of Freehold (yes, we watched it Friday and Saturday night), a kegerator with microbrew on tap, and the most beautiful bedding linens you've ever seen:

But I digress. Adam and Lauren's wedding was destined to be the hippest of the hip. And they did not disappoint. Everyone at the ceremony gets to touch the rings? Hip. Touring an art gallery while dinner gets set up? Hip. Seating assignments placed in clumps of grass? Well, I'm not quite sure what that was all about. Still, it was a great weekend, and here are just 5 of the greatest moments that the weekend brought:

#1: $1 Bets at the Bowling Alley

Of course, the Bargers have to bowl before the walk down the alley...I mean aisle. By the time we go there, it was time for a Costello v. Dobmeier v. Basford v. DeFago v. Clarke challenge. Everyone put in $1, and to the victor went the spoils (and by spoils I mean $4). I took the first game. Basford took game 2. But the real challenge came on our way out, when we noticed a boxing machine in the arcade. Once again, we put our dollar bills on the line. Who could punch the hardest. Now, of course, looking at our line-up, punching the "hardest" is a relative term. Despite Devin's excellent form and Dobmeier's follow-through (completely through....see the pics below), I apparently am the one to turn to if we get in an Akron brawl (855 points, what?!).

#2: Pink Ties

As we boys were getting ready in the DeFago basement, we noticed that both Ben and Brennan brought pink ties, and Devin had two in his arsenal. So, of course, we all had to wear pink ties to the wedding. I'm not quite sure what we expected. Sure, we expected people to look at us, probably scoff at us, but we didn't expect the ties to be such a hit with a certain bridesmaid. At some point, a circle formed on the dance floor, and we had to give Lauren and her girl what they wanted: a dance with the pink tie guys!

#3: Commodores+1

The living room proudly bore a poster of the Commodores. And on graduation day in 2003, the 301 boys even more proudly reenacted that album cover. And on the Barger's wedding day, we couldn't have been more proud to add Lauren to the pose!

#4: Nice. Kiss. Bad Ass. Fight.

There are 4 ideal emotions to convey during a wedding booth photo session.

NICE

KISS

BAD ASS

FIGHT!

#5: Lockview

The legendary DeFago brothers led us to the Lockview each night for our nightcap. The first night, we unseated the bar's owner for a prime seat. After the wedding, we led the bar staff in a signalong to "Forever In Blue Jeans." We garnished shots of tequila with hot sauce and/or tomato juice. But the highlight by far was Basford's attempt at some sort of chair trick. Once Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up (Part 1) hit the jukebox, he was ready to go. In the video below, you'll hear Basford ask the waitress if he can do it. He then clarifies that he's not asking for permission. He just wants to know if she thinks he's capable. He was.....barely.

A great weekend. If only Don Mattingly could have been there.

Here'a a sweet video put together by Adam and Lauren's photographer:
